Trends in Low-Alcohol and Non-Alcoholic (NA) Beer

A sophisticated effort for good beer-like non-alcoholic beers has emerged to meet the demand for more low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beer options. European countries are leading the way in the NA beer segment, where they have been more accepted by patrons for several years. The trend for low-alcohol and NA beers is beginning to emerge in the Americas and Asia-Pacific region, with multinational brewers and even some craft brewers developing beers for this trend. The primary beer types that are emerging in non-alcoholic beers are IPA, malt and wheat, with room for growth in the stout segment as demand increases.

“We are predicting that in the next two years we will see an increase of 20-40% in NA beer growth from both craft and macro brewers,” said Mark Schulze, Lead Research Scientist – Hops/Brewing Applications, Kalsec. “These aren’t your father’s NA beers – they’re crafty, hoppy, and they will reach a wider audience than ever before as people continue to bring craft beer into their lifestyle. NA beers are going to reach across the beverage field into the soft drink area and start to include things like botanicals or cannabis, and be used as mixers for alcoholic beverages, distilled spirits, coffee or kombucha.”
