| Frequently Asked Questions |
1. How are Oleoresin and Aquaresin® Turmeric produced?
The process begins with turmeric rhizomes that have been specially prepared for extraction. The rhizomes are dried and ground to a fine mesh size to improve extraction of the pigments. The pigments are extracted from the cellular mass and concentrated to form a liquid oleoresin raw material. The raw material is mixed with standardizing agents such as soybean oil, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, and other food grade emulsifiers.
2. What are the recommended handling procedures for storage and use of turmeric?
All Kalsec® Turmeric extracts should be stored in tightly closed containers in cool, dry warehousing. Prior to use the containers should be stirred to ensure homogeneity of the products.
3. Can I use turmeric to replace FD&C Yellow No. 5?
Yes, in many applications turmeric can be used to replace tartrazine. Three parts of 8.5% turmeric will replace 1 part of FD&C Yellow No. 5. Consideration should be given to light stability requirements.
4. Are natural colors available with a more orange hue?
If a more orange color is desired we suggest a blend of turmeric with paprika or annatto. Please see the Natural Color Blends section.
5. Are Kalsec® Oleoresin and Aquaresin® Turmeric Kosher?
Yes, they are Kosher.
6. Are products free of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) available?
