Dry Products
Kalsec® Southwest, our facility in the high plains of West Texas near Denver City, has agricultural, dehydration, extraction, grinding and blend operations that provide a secure domestic source of high quality products. The 1,200 acres, under direct ownership and control of Kalsec® Southwest, include nurseries for varietal improvement and mechanical harvesting development as well as commercial acreage of rosemary, paprika, carrot and other herbs and spices.
This area of West Texas and eastern New Mexico is known as "The Cap Rock." The Cap Rock's high elevation is responsible for its unique climate characterized by cool nights and sunny warm days. This environment encourages exceptionally high color development in paprika and provides perfect conditions for the cultivation of rosemary. So, it seemed particularly fitting to brand Kalsec® Southwest Paprika, Cap Rock Red® Paprika, with the name of its origin.
Kalsec® Southwest is the leader in the development of mechanical harvesting in the Southwest with over 95% of the crops being mechanically harvested with equipment developed specifically for our variets and agronomic practices. The dehydration facility, established in 1993, is state of the art and was designed to handle a range of products including paprika, carrot, rosemary and other herbs. The extraction plant is the result of over 10 years of development and pilot work. The process and products including Kalspice®, are covered by several US Patents.
The combination of domestic agricultural and processing capabilities is unique in the industry and gives our customers the assurance that our products are consistent in performance and availability. The non-solvent extraction process provides the food industry and consumer an alternative to traditional extraction methods in response to a growing interest in oleoresins that can be used in organic and minimally processed foods while at the same time providing the same functionality, flavor, color and cost of traditional methods in an environmentally sensitive way.
